In an early test for 2024 Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump, the former commander-in-chief appears to be discovering that the enemy of his ally is… something awkward?
It’s White House or collapse for Trump, but there are still many unanswered questions regarding his staff, Cabinet, and inner circle for a potential second term.
Some notable figures from Trump’s first term in office are almost certain to not appear in any sequel.
It is widely anticipated that former Vice President Mike Pence will run for president in 2024. Former White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany appears completely satisfied with her current position at Fox News. (and being a mother). Ivanka Trump, a former presidential adviser, has already expressed her desire to focus on her family rather than on politics.
This leaves a number of gaps surrounding the former president.
Marjorie Taylor Greene, a combative Georgia representative, has never had an official role with Team Trump, but she has been one of his most vocal supporters.
Indeed, few MAGA flag-bearers are as steadfast as Greene, which made it all the more remarkable when she came out in vehement opposition to rumors that Trump was contemplating employing another close ally.
This ally, Laura Loomer, appears to have been ultimately denied a position on the Trump campaign, but not before Greene attacked her on Twitter.
“Laura Loomer is mentally unstable and a documented liar,” Greene said on Friday, taking the gloves off right from the get-go.

“Never hire or do business with a liar. Liars are toxic and poisonous to everything they touch. I’ll make sure he knows.”
That “he” is unmistakably Trump, and it appears that the backlash against a potential Loomer appointment was sufficient to dissuade the former president from proceeding.
The original New York Times report on the Loomer allegation has been amended to reflect the fact that she will not be joining Trump’s campaign.
Loomer offered a relatively muted response to the Times when it reached out to her for comment: “Out of respect for President Trump, I’m not going to comment on private conversations that I had with the president.”
However, she did not hold back when responding to Greene.
First, Loomer insulted the Georgia representative with an old Daily Mail article about Greene’s alleged extramarital affairs.
“I’m not going to stand for being viciously defamed in the media and called a LIAR and TOXIC by someone who couldn’t keep their loyalty to their own husband and family,” Loomer tweeted along with a screen shot of the report.

The accusation of defamation was reiterated by Loomer in a separate tweet.
Despite not receiving the position, Loomer has not toned down her support for Trump, even if it means disparaging other members of the GOP, such as Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. (a possible primary election rival).
